Tarkarli Beach, Konkan, Maharashtra - a Family Vacation

Tarkarli Beach is one such beach I had been waiting to visit, ever since papa mentioned about it in January 2009. Lovely waters, they are so clear, clean, and the best part you can walk into the sea for several meters and the water level is only knee-deep. By the way, the other beach I am waiting to visit is Tilamati Beach in Karwar; my sister-in-law's told me that the sand is very grainy over there, almost like sesame seeds. 'Til' meaning 'Sesame seeds' in my mother tongue 'Konkani'.

I shot this video on 1st January, 2010. It was the day after the Lunar Eclipse and we were all on the beach since probably 9 in the morning till way until 12 noon.

On Tarkarli Beach, just before we started to leave we came across a few fishermen who were about to take their boats to the sea. They were not intending to go fishing right away, but somewhere in the evening. They also mentioned that it gets too difficult to be taking their boat to the sea as it gets sunnier (afternoons). I wish I could have stayed a little longer to continue the video recording for a few more minutes. It had been 5 minutes or so since all my family members had cleared from Tarkarli Beach, so couldn't help ending the video.

After getting drenched in the waters of Tarkarli, we went boating on River Karli to see the point where River Karli meets Arabian Sea. Kind of "
Karli meets Tarkarli". Also, a little further from there we landed on Tsunami Island (an island formed by Tsunami that hit South India in 2004).

That River + Sea was full of Seagulls. I regret one video using my mobile camera - I thought I clicked on shooting the video & minutes later when we were away from the group of Seagulls, I saw the message "Camera on Standby". Argggh!!!

  1. Tarkali beach is one of the famous Beach Destinations in Maharashtra. It is fairly 550 km from Mumbai, at the confluence of the karli river and the Arabian sea. Sindhudurg fort, which Maharashtra's more popular and an important sea port, is one key attractions of Tarkali.
